What Can Small Business Learn from the Battle Between Apple & Microsoft?

Steve Jobs

A story getting a fair amount of coverage today is that for the first time Apple beat Microsoft in market cap. I have read several articles about this and some of them have included the “battle” between Apple and Microsoft.

Personally I have always had a hard time comparing the two. It sort of always felt like I was trying to compare oranges and well apples. However, the article I just finished reading (which you can read by clicking here got me to thinking about my own business and how I approach my competitors.
Do I want to be like Microsoft and have such a complex array of products and services that you practically need a degree to keep it all straight? Or do I want to be like Apple and do what I do and do it really, really well?

Both companies have their place in this world and so does my business. For me I know that I will deliver a better product to my clients if I try to be more like Steve so that is the route I am choosing.
There is a lot that any business can learn from watching these two mega-companies and the talent that leads them. I know that I will continue watching them both.
