Downtown St. Petersburg will watch high profile celebrities in feature films during this year’s festival
(TAMPA BAY, Fla.,) – Downtown St. Petersburg is set to be the location for the 7th Annual Sunscreen Film Festival, to be held April 19-22, and will boast high-profile names from the industry. The festival has paved the way for successful directors as well, and continues to bring in talent from all over the country.
The 7th Annual Sunscreen Film Festival gives movie-buffs the chance to watch their favorite actors in a different kind of setting, in a special viewing outside the theater. This year, the opening film (to be held on Thursday night), titled “Searching for Sonny” , will star the following people: Minka Kelly (“Friday Night Lights,” “Charlie’s Angels,” “The Roommate”), Emmy and Golden Globe nominee Masi Oka (“Heroes,” “Get Smart”) Jason Dohring (“Veronica Mars”), Michael Hogan (“Battlestar Galactica”), and Clarke Peters (“The Wire”, “Treme”).
“The festival is an incredible place for actors to build their careers, directors to show their work, and people to enjoy the people that make films so special,” commented Tony Armer, Executive Director of the Sunscreen Film Festival.
Not only does the festival provide guests with a star-studded line up in the films, but it has hosted some of the greatest names in the biz; actors and director who have used the festival as a stepping stone for their career. Those people include, but are not limited to: Melissa McCarthy (“Pretty Ugly People,” 2009) stars in “Mike & Molly” and was nominated for an Academy Award for her role in “Bridesmaids”; Olivia Wilde (star of “Fix,” the film that won Best Director in 2009) gained attention for her role on Fox’s “House, MD” and has since starred in “Tron: Legacy,” “Cowboys & Aliens” and “The Change-Up”); Neil Mandt – director and star of “Last Stop For Paul” (Best Director, 2007); and John Putch – director of “BachelorMan” (Best Feature, 2006), “Mojave Phone Booth” (2007) and “Route 30” (2009). Putch has numerous TV directing credits, including “Body Of Proof,” “Scrubs,” “Cougar Town,” “My Name Is Earl,” and “Ugly Betty.” Putch directed the film “American Pie Presents: The Book Of Love” in 2009.
