Super Boat races a hit at Clearwater Beach Monday, October 5, 2009
PINELLAS COUNTY (Bay News 9) — The first annual Clearwater Super Boat National Championship in Clearwater Beach seems to be a hit. More than 20 boats ran the two-and-a-half mile course, racing at speeds of over 140 mph from Pier 60 out and back again. Bay News 9 talked with some people who enjoyed the races so much, they said they’d come back for it again. “We are actually talking about seeing the schedule for next year and see where we are. (We’d) do it again,” said Valarie Curry, from Lake County, Fl. “It turned out to be a nice weekend for all of us.” It’s too soon to tell how much money the three-day event pumped into local businesses.
