The Marvel Universe might seem like the stuff of pure fantasy, but in the case of Iron Man, it’s closer to reality than you might think.

A new combat suit took center stage at Tampa’s Special Operations Forces Industry Conference (SOFIC) in May, and it looks like something only a truly unstoppable superhero might wear. Next-gen features include more and lighter body armor, plus boosters for knees and ankles that enable soldiers to run faster.1 The suit was just one of many new technologies that debuted at the conference which will make our military safer and even more effective.

And that has to be a priority – ever-evolving threats from terrorism and rogue states mean that the military is increasingly relying on these new technologies to protect themselves and do their jobs. The SOFIC conference is huge – decisions for millions or even billions of dollars in spending might begin right here at the technology premiere in Tampa.2

The conference is held here because Tampa is the location of the U.S. Special Operations Command at MacDill Air Force Base. One more reason to be proud to call this city home. #TampaPride
