Florida on the Forefront of Cybercrime Defense

With the digital age bringing our world to a weakened and more vulnerable state, many now scramble to try and strengthen their defenses. South Carolina was attacked earlier this year by a cyber-criminal.  “The cyberattack, which state sources say is believed to have originated inside Russia, started with a “phishing” scheme, a common tactic used by cyber criminals.”

In Clearwater, Florida, Stu Sjouwerman, owner of KnowBe4, which provides web-based Internet Security Awareness Training (ISAT) to small and medium-sized enterprises, partnered with a man who was America’s Most Wanted Hacker, Kevin Mitnick. Together they help entrepreneurs tackle cybercrime tactics through advanced security awareness training.  “This training specializes in making sure employees understand the mechanisms of spam, phishing, spear-phishing, malware and social engineering, and are able to apply this knowledge to their personal devices used for and at the workplace.”

In order to get the word out about his services, Sjouwerman signed on with local public relations firmJoTo PR. The JoTo team, skilled with their strategic communications planning and knowing the importance of market research, now represents a multitude of clients from the healthcare, IT, finance, and general business industries. This year, JoTo PR sponsored an unprecedented effort, built around the Republican National Convention, to promote regional and Florida businesses, called Front Row Tampa Bay. Sjouwerman was one of the many guests that spoke about Florida’s growth.

Front Row Tampa had Stu Sjouwerman on one of their segments called Sykes Entrepreneur Spotlight, where Stu and the other guests, Ryan Sullivan, Linda Olson, and Steve Tingiris, spoke about their businesses and how they help Florida’s economy.
